The Jefferson Business Council has recognized three teachers from the Jefferson Parish Public School System who have been nominated for State Teacher Of The Year with the Lucien Gunter Excellence In Teaching Award. The recipients this year, the third in which presented, were Kayla Allen of Riverdale Middle School, Lauren Termine of Thomas Jefferson High School and Jamie Staes of C. T. Janet Elementary School. The award is given in honor of the late Lucien Gunter, who was a tremendous advocate for public education and a former Executive Director of the Jefferson Business Council and JEDCO. A donation by the Jefferson Business Council of $1,000 was made to each teacher’s school.
