The Jefferson Business Council has announced its support of a new property tax proposed by the Jefferson Parish Public School System that will be levied parishwide at a rate of 7.9 mills for 10 years beginning 2019 which is dedicated to increased pay for teachers and other school system employees.
After thorough evaluation of data provided by the school system, the membership of the JBC agreed that this new property tax is a greatly needed investment in our school system and its children. Insuring that the best teachers possible are in our classrooms is the main goal of this dedicated millage and that means our public education system will improve. An improved school system will not only positively impact the children it serves, it will also serve to increase property values, create safer neighborhoods and provide a better educated population which benefits us all.
The proposal has been fully evaluated by the independent Bureau of Governmental Research and has received the support of that organization. We urge anyone who has any questions to review that report on the BGR website.
The JBC is proud to stand with the Jefferson Chamber, the Homebuilders Association of Greater New Orleans PAC, the New Orleans Metropolitan Association of Realtors, the Westbank Business & Industry Association and the Jefferson Federation of Teachers in urging Jefferson Parish voters to vote for this millage as an investment in a better Jefferson Parish. Election Day is May 4thwith early voting taking place from April 20ththrough the 27th.
